more embroidery and a new project

Here is one more dress that is embroidered.
I was lucky to have a day of sewing with my friend Marilyn (who was just up visiting me a few weeks ago) and we worked on a project that we started probably 5 years ago. Well, let me clarify, we cut it out!

I got one block done yesterday, quite tedious. And the sad thing is, I'm not really sure I like it. :( I love the colors, but not real happy that the spikes don't show up very well. Then I placed it on the fabric that is going to be the alternate blocks and not liking that very well either. Hmm, what a bummer. I think I'll make 4 more blocks (the pattern called for 25 pieced blocks total) and then decide whether to invest my time in the whole thing. It's just not striking any chords with me. I guess I better find out now before I make all those little arcs! But dang it, now they are all cut out. I may have to get my thinking cap on!

Love your embroidery and especially your pieced blocks. I think they will look great with a pastel sashing and border.

Ah Karen, if it doesn't speak to you...make a pillow...forget the other 24 blocks!!!

pretty blocks but they really don't show up all the work on them well....

I love that block pattern but, I agree with you, there's not enough contrast for all that work you put into it.

Heck yeah. After making those arcs I'd want my points to show up too. Maybe you cut out a higher contrast fabric for them and it will help it pop. I do like the pattern and fabrics otherwise but not too crazy about the alternate block fabric. Well! How is that for an opinion.

Love the embroidered dress. Who made the pattern? I'll have to search your blog. :)

Love the pieced block, the colors are gorgeous, maybe the spikes will show up better if you use pure white batting, the fabrics you have them laying on now are probably darkening up the white/polka background fabric. Also, your embrodiery block is awesome.

I think you have a great blog and have been reading it for a while so I'm giving you a kreative blog award. Go to my blog for details.

I think they are very pretty blocks. You could turn a couple of them into a nice bag. When all else fails - make a bag -LOL Do you have the fabric cut out for all 24 blocks? You could make a bunch of bags!!!

It is a pretty pattern, but the contrast is very low for the amount of work that you will put in for it... Smaller projects such as table runners, placemats, bags - might show up better? Or maybe you could re-cut darker fabric for contrast (either the spikes or the background). Turn the spare parts into crumb blocks? If you aren't 100% happy with it the way it is... although some people really like the low contrast effect.
Cheers! Evelyn

I really like this block.
Maybe you would like it better if each quarter of the block was made with the same fabric?

I made a couple of those blocks several years ago. Love the pastel version. They are not a lot of fun to piece.

Lovely pattern, but I agree with you that the spikes do not show well. Maybe you can make a summery table runner or something?
Cute embroidery too :-)
